Most people know Lee Greenwood for his rendition of God
Bless the USA, but during this holiday season he will
mix holiday cheer with patriotism for a show headed to
Marion. The Walton Center Arts Society is bringing
Greenwood to the F. Ritchie Walton Auditorium on Dec.
9."He is going to do a number of his biggest hits, (and)
he is going to sing some of the traditional and most
famous Christmas songs," said David Rees, society board
chairman.Rees said Greenwood would perform his most
famous song as a tribute to veterans and servicemen and
women. It's not every day a hit singer graces the city
of Marion, and Rees said he hopes the community takes
advantage of it. "I think it's going to help put Marion
back on the map," he said. "It's going to help bring
some entertainment into this wonderful facility."
Greenwood also will have a reception before the concert
to meet people, and in the afternoon he will speak with
local students. "Not only are we trying to bring great
entertainment, we are trying to bring a great
educational opportunity for our students as well," Rees
said. To help fund the educational aspect, Rees received
the Agency Hands in the Community award from Allstate
insurance, where he is an agent. The criteria for the
$500 grant were that a member of the organization had to
work at Allstate and be involved in the community. The
society also received a $5,000 grant from Heartland Arts
Fund, National Endowment for the Arts and Indiana Arts
Commission to be used toward the educational programs.
